Load Testing

Controlled application of test loads to verify that a machine performs safely at and beyond its rated capacity.

Load testing places a known load on a machine under controlled conditions to prove it performs safely to its rated capacity. It is the definitive demonstration that structure, hydraulics, brakes and safety systems all function together under real load, rather than in isolation. We conduct load testing on EWPs, cranes and lifting equipment following manufacture, major repair, modification or as part of periodic verification under the AS 1418 and AS 2550 families.

Why load testing matters

Individual checks confirm that components are sound; load testing confirms that the whole machine behaves correctly when it matters. Under test load, our engineers observe deflection, stability, hydraulic holding, brake performance and overload protection, and they compare the machine's response against its design expectations.

It is the ultimate functional proof for a machine returning to service after significant structural work, and a routine verification that safety systems intervene at the correct thresholds.

How we conduct testing

Tests are planned so that loads, positions and acceptance criteria are defined before any weight is applied. Calibrated test weights or load cells are used, and the machine is worked through the load cases that matter for its design and duty. Throughout, the test is controlled to keep personnel and equipment safe.

For proof loading, where a load in excess of the rated capacity is applied, the machine is examined before and after to confirm no permanent deformation or damage has resulted.

When load testing is required

Load testing follows new manufacture, major structural repair, modification affecting load path, and forms part of periodic verification for many lifting appliances. It is also commissioned to resolve doubt about a machine's capacity after an incident or a change of ownership.

Reporting

The load test report records the test loads, positions, measured response and pass or fail against the acceptance criteria, signed by the responsible engineer. It becomes part of the machine's compliance record.
