Engineering Report

A signed, defensible engineering assessment of a machine's condition, compliance or fitness for a specific purpose.

An engineering report is the written, signed judgement of a qualified engineer on a specific technical question about a machine. Owners commission reports to resolve disputes, support insurance claims, document modifications, or establish whether equipment is fit for a particular task. Unlike a routine inspection sheet, an engineering report is structured to withstand challenge and to stand alone as evidence.

What an engineering report addresses

The scope is defined by the question. It may assess structural adequacy, verify a modification against the design standard, quantify remaining service life, or determine compliance following an incident. Whatever the question, the report states the brief, the evidence gathered, the analysis and a reasoned conclusion.

We draw on inspection findings, NDT results, design documentation and, where needed, engineering calculation. The conclusion is always attributable to a named responsible engineer.

  • Defined brief and clearly stated scope
  • Evidence from inspection, NDT and documentation
  • Reasoned analysis against relevant standards
  • Signed conclusion attributable to a named engineer

Common uses

Reports are commissioned to support pre-purchase decisions, to satisfy an insurer after damage, to document that a repair or modification restores compliance, or to inform a regulator following an incident. Because they are independent, they carry weight in commercial and legal settings.

Quality and defensibility

Every report is written to be understood by a non-specialist decision-maker while remaining technically rigorous. Assumptions and limitations are stated explicitly, so the reader knows exactly what the conclusion does and does not cover.
