Functional Testing

Systematic verification that every control, interlock and safety system operates and intervenes exactly as designed.

Functional testing verifies that a machine's controls, interlocks and safety systems all work as the designer intended. It is easy to assume that because a machine moves, its safety systems are sound, but overload cut-outs, tilt alarms, emergency lowering and interlocks only earn trust when they are deliberately exercised. We functionally test EWPs and cranes to confirm each protective function activates at the right point and behaves predictably.

What functional testing covers

Our engineers operate every control and provoke every protective function in a controlled way: overload sensing, tilt and stability cut-outs, emergency lowering, interlocks, limit switches and audible and visual alarms. The aim is to confirm not just that a function exists, but that it intervenes at the correct threshold and returns the machine to a safe state.

Functional testing frequently accompanies load testing, so that both the machine's capacity and its safety responses are verified together.
