EWP truck is a common term for a truck-mounted elevating work platform, a road-registrable truck carrying a boom-type EWP. As with any truck-mounted platform, the inspection spans both the lifting structure and the truck it is built on, because the two form a single load path from the platform to the outrigger pads.
An integrated load path
An EWP truck transfers platform loads through the boom, turntable and subframe into the truck chassis and out to the outriggers. We inspect that whole path, so the boom, pins and slew ring are examined together with the subframe fixings, the chassis at the mounting zone and the stabiliser legs.
This integrated approach catches the hidden defects, such as loosening subframe fasteners or corrosion between subframe and chassis, that a boom-only inspection would miss.
Hydraulics, stabilisers and descent
The hydraulic system is pressure-tested, cylinders are checked for drift, and holding valves are verified so the boom holds position if a hose fails. The stabiliser legs, interlocks and the emergency descent are tested to confirm the machine cannot elevate on an improperly set base and that an operator can be brought down if power is lost.
Intervals and certification
Annual competent-person inspection and a ten-year major inspection apply under AS 2550.10. Our report covers the EWP and the truck interface and states the certification outcome, complementing any separate heavy-vehicle roadworthiness process.
