Vertical Mast Lift Inspection & Certification
Engineering inspection of vertical mast lifts, the compact push-around and self-propelled EWPs used for low-level indoor access.
Vertical mast lifts raise a single-person or light-duty platform straight up on a telescoping mast, usually built from stacked sections driven by a chain or cable and cylinder. Compact and light, they are common for maintenance, stock picking and fit-out work in retail and warehousing, where their small footprint and indoor manoeuvrability are valued.
The mast and its lifting media
The telescoping mast is the defining feature, and the chains or cables that raise it are safety critical. We inspect the mast sections and slides for wear, check chain or cable condition and tension, and confirm the anti-fall or sequencing devices that keep the sections in the correct order operate correctly.
The lift cylinder and its holding valve are checked to ensure the platform lowers in a controlled manner and holds position without drift.
Base stability and electrical safety
Vertical mast lifts have a small footprint, so tilt sensing and, where fitted, pothole protection are important to prevent tipping. We verify these operate and inspect the wheels or castors and brakes.
As most units are battery-electric and used indoors, electrical testing to AS/NZS 3760 of the charger and any platform outlets complements the mechanical inspection.
Intervals and certification
Annual competent-person inspection applies under AS 2550.10, with routine checks per the manual. Our report documents mast and chain condition, function-test results and the certification outcome.
