Because these cranes carry their load on tyres rather than outriggers, their stability depends heavily on tyre condition, articulation and the dynamics of travelling under load, which makes their inspection distinctive among mobile cranes.
Stability rests on tyres and articulation
Unlike a slew crane on outriggers, a Franna lifts and moves with its load on rubber tyres. This means tyre condition, correct inflation and the articulation angle of the chassis all directly affect stability. We inspect the tyres, wheels, brakes and suspension with this in mind, and verify the articulation joint and steering, since a load carried around an articulated bend reduces the crane's stability.

Boom and lifting system
The telescopic boom, its wear pads and pins are inspected as on any telescopic structure, along with the hoist, hook block and rigging. Holding valves are checked to confirm the boom and load are held securely if hydraulic pressure is lost.
Inspection intervals and certification
Periodic competent-person inspection and a major inspection apply under the AS 2550 crane series.
